There are currently 33 peaks in Nepal that are classified as 'Trekking Peaks', providing a wide range of technical difficulty. Ranging between 18 & 22,000 ft, application must be made through the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) for a special permit for these treks. A fee is payable based on the size of your group and the 'group' of the peak involved. In recent years, it has become considerably easier to plan a trekking peak, as the application process has been streamlined. The table below sets out the names of the peaks, their heights and their locations within the Kingdom. We have detailed 4 trekking peaks to the left that require little to no previous mountaineering experience. Irrespective of this, knowledge of ice-axe, crampons and rope usage will place you in good stead to attempt a peak. You must also be in good physical condition. Many of the peaks are over 6,000m, and at these heights, you should be prepared for very cold temperatures, bad weather and the increased risk of altitude sickness. On the plus side, standing astride a Himalayan peak with friends is an exhilarating experience which more than compensates for the more extreme conditions. Groups are restricted to a maximum size of 12, and the group is led by experienced guides registered with the NMA. The route is meticulously planned to ensure your safety and your best chances of success. Training will be given on climbing skills where a basic understanding of climbing principles is required before attempting a peak. Please contact us for further information on any of the trekking peaks listed below, and we will advise you its technical level, the best time of year to go and the likely cost of organising an expedition.
